Aber es ist doch umso schöner, wenn man dem Laufen noch ein wenig mehr Sinn geben kann!

Deswegen habe ich mich entschlossen, mit meiner ersten Teilnahme am Berlin Marathon 2014 ein spezielles Projekt von terre des hommes Deutschland e.V. zu unterstützen, das ich persönlich für sehr sinnvoll erachte:

Für Mädchen im indischen Bundesstaat Rajasthan ist ein Schulbesuch leider immer noch nicht selbstverständlich. Das liegt unter Anderem an den großen Entfernungen, die dort oftmals zur nächsten Schule zurückgelegt werden müssen - 75% der Einwohner leben in ländlichen Gebieten. Terre des hommes hat deswegen in Zusammenarbeit mit lokalen Partnerorganisationen begonnen, Mädchen mit Fahrrädern auszustatten, um ihnen damit einen Schulbesuch zu ermöglichen. Für mich, als Lehrer und begeisterten Radfahrer, leuchtet das jedenfalls ein!

Ich brauche jetzt eure Hilfe - denn etwa 45 Euro kostet ein Fahrrad vor Ort. Ein kleiner Betrag, wenn man bedenkt, welch positive Wirkung für das Leben der Kinder erzielt werden kann. Es geht ja nicht nur um den Schulbesuch, sondern auch einfach um ein wenig Freude!

Terre des hommes ist ein transparentes und zielgerichtetes Hilfswerk, das sich seit 1967 weltweit für die Rechte von Kindern einsetzt, und zwar unabhängig von Regierungen, Wirtschaft, Religionsgemeinschaften und Parteien.

But isn't it even nicer when you can give a bit more meaning to running?
This is why I decided to run for team "Terre des Hommes Germany" at this year's famous Berlin Marathon. To qualify, I will have to raise 700 euros in donations. The money will go towards a well-defined project in India, which I full-heartedly support:

For the majority of young girls in the rural state of Rajasthan, India, it is still not common to attend school for more than 1-2 years. There are many reasons for this, but one major obstacle that stands between the children and their education is relatively easy to identify: The extensiveness of the rural landscape. Confronted with mostly underdeveloped infrastructure and little to no public transportation, the only practical way the children can get to school is by using a bicycle.
Terre des hommes has therefore begun to equip girls with bikes, so as to enable more to attend school. This is much needed, since the literacy rate among women in Rajasthan lingers alarmingly low around 52%, compared to 79% among the men. (Source: The Times of India, May 26th, 2013)
Both as a teacher and enthusiastic cyclist, I support this project without reservations.

Now I need your help - 45 euros will buy one bicycle, and possibly one education. A small amount when you consider the positive impact on the lives of the children. Furthermore, it's not just about going to school, but also about giving a little joy!
